Coming to Dartmouth in 2024?

If the answer is a resounding "YES" or you are currently choosing your holiday options for this year, let us assure you that Dartmouth is a truly terrific choice for all the family.

For those interested in being by the water and hopping on and off local river cruise boats, ferries and water taxis to enjoy the scenery, visit castles and country houses, walk, or go to restaurants, bars and pubs, this is for YOU!

Some river trips can be combined with Dartmouth's Steam Railway, too.

And a bonus - keep your eyes peeled for seals, herons and dolphins beside the Dart.

If being sporty is more your thing, sea kayaking and stand up paddle boarding take place from the centre of town, as does local boat hire.

For foodies, Dartmouth's fierce reputation for outstanding fine dining, or sophisticated cocktails by the water's edge, as well as traditional pubs with cosy fires is unparalleled. Seafood from the area is amongst the best in the world!

There's even live music, too.

For the historians and lovers of buildings, we have Britannia Royal Naval College (do check for tours) Agatha Christie's Greenway House and Coleton Fishacre, and of course Dartmouth Castle.

Walking enthusiasts are well served with miles upon miles of gorgeous walks alongside the Dart, or along the South West Coast Path with some truly jaw dropping views across Start Bay within the South Devon AONB.

Lovers of gardens can relax within local National Trust Gardens at Coleton and Greenway House, but also at Fast Rabbit Farm Gardens, and our very own Royal Avenue Gardens, or explore Dartmouth's community orchard.

Something high octane or unique? In and around Dartmouth you can try; surf school, gin school, cookery school, rum school, Dolphin safaris, Llama walking on Dartmoor, Jet Skis from Brixham, RIB rides from Salcombe, and even the UK's fastest RIB ride - Raptor - with speeds up to 76mph - which operates from Torquay Marina.

Arts & Culture Vultures will love Dartmouth's galleries, artisan markets on selected Saturdays, our local Arts Centre at the Flavel, the unique Romany Cinema at Totnes or the comprehensive arts program at Dartington Hall.

Little ones will love local crabbing, Dartmouth's ice cream shops and local beaches, including Castle Cove and Sugary Cove for rockpooling fun, and the stunning Blackpool Sands beach. Pennywell Farm, Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and the Butterfly and Otter Sanctuary should keep them happy, too! We know that small can mean incredibly influential.

South Devon and Dartmouth are exceptionally dog friendly, and you'll find more often than not that dogs are fully welcomed and even expected to be with you.

And of course, cream teas are here in abundance. Cream first, naturally.

You won't regret making Dartmouth your holiday destination! Warning! It's rather addictive, and you will keep coming back.

Our historic, grade II listed cottage - The Old Wash House - sleeps 5 in three beautifully appointed bedrooms, plus travel cot. With a fully enclosed courtyard featuring a lovely outdoor living seating area around the original scullery fireplace, parking on the driveway, EV charger and bespoke interior dog house, we offer a very unique combination of high quality amenities for visitors in an exceptionally convenient location in the heart of town, on the level.
